When I think back on my past six years in Waxahachie Junior Service League, one word comes to mind - gratitude. I am grateful that I have been able to give back to our community through all the different organizations that we serve and donate funds so that they may succeed in their goals. I am grateful to have had members put their trust in my abilities to serve them at organizations and on the WJSL Board. I am grateful that our successes have been many and our failures have been learning experiences. But most of all, I am grateful to have met our members - provisional, active and sustainers. We may have started our lives in different areas but we are all bound by our dedication to this special area that we call home. We all want our community to succeed and offer the best to our residents. I recently saw a quote from Karen Salmansohn that says “Be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people.” WJSL embodies that quote and I am proud to be a part of something that is proof of strong, good-hearted women working to bring goodness to Ellis County.
Our year has been a very successful one with our Christmas Market bringing in over $55,000! Many thanks to our members who helped us reach that goal, especially our Program Services Committee who worked hard all year long to make our event successful and memorable. We currently volunteer at over 15 organizations in the Ellis County Area. This upcoming year, we look to add more organizations to that list to help accommodate the changing needs of our members and community. We are also giving our website an upgrade to make Christmas Market VIP ticket purchasing better and provide new media capabilities. Each year we have a significant expense in publishing and mailing the WJSL Newsletters, funds that could be put towards helping more in our community. This Spring Newsletter will be the last one sent by regular mail. The upcoming Fall 2017 Newsletter will be sent to you electronically. If you are not sure if we have your most current email address please contact us.
These last six years I have spent in WJSL have been full of hours of service, helping plan the future of our organization and meeting many new people. I am grateful to our sustainers for helping when needed and offering support in the many ways that they do. I am grateful to our community for allowing us to assist them in achieving their goals. I am grateful for the opportunity to provide a good role model to future generations of volunteers. I am grateful to all the active members of our group and our Board, you are all valuable contributors. I am grateful that WJSL will be around for many years to come!
